ANNE HANNA
Anne Hanna is a nationally-recognized watercolorist living in Dagsboro, Delaware. She has exhibited widely in the Washington-Baltimore area for the last 30 years. She moved from Laurel, Maryland to Delaware in 1998. Her formal training was at the Central School of Art and Design in London, England and Indiana University. While at Indiana as a Graduate Assistant in Sculpture, she taught an introduction to sculpture class and together with another graduate assistant, completed the studio portion of an advanced metal sculpture class when renowned American artist, David Smith, had to leave the university early before the semester was over. While in Laurel, Maryland, she was a volunteer art teacher in the Prince Georges’s County Public Schools for 14 years. She was the official portrait painter for the National Capital Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America and contributed over 65 portraits of scoutmasters and various patches and memorabilia. Five of her portraits hang in the Washington Boy Scout Headquarters and were featured on CBS News TV in 1985. Anne was Director of the Savage Mill Gallery for 12 years and had a studio at the Mill for 17 years. Throughout her career, Anne has continued to take workshops with some of America’s most famous watercolorists including: Edgar Whitney, Charles Reid, Robert Wood, Domenic DiStefano, Zoltan Szabo, Carlton Plummer, Rudy de Renya, Janet Walsh, G.A. Sheller, Roberta Carter Clark, Marc Moon, Frank Webb and Chen Chee. She was part of a studio group with Whitney protégée, friend and mentor William (Skip) Lawrence for 14 years. Anne is a member of the Potomac Valley Watercolorists, Rehoboth Art League, Bethany Beach Watercolor Society, Millsboro Art League, National Portrait Society of America, and a life member of the Baltimore Watercolor Society. She shows locally throughout Sussex County. Much of her work is done on a commission basis. She is a docent at the Rehoboth Art League, and in 2003 inaugurated an art film/lecture series at the South Coastal Library in Bethany Beach. In her second year of the films series she drew the largest audience the library has had for any program, and the series will continue indefinitely. Since 1999, she has had one person shows at the Rehoboth Art League, Delaware Tech, the Peninsula Gallery in Bethany, and the Zwaanendael Gallery of Art. She is represented with her original art works at the Peninsula Gallery and her prints are represented at the Coastal Art and Framing Gallery. In 2003 Anne was the featured artist at the Beebe Hospital Art Auction. She has been the featured artist at the Rehoboth Art League and won several prizes there. In 2003 she won first place in the National Landscape Show held in Lewes.In March of 2004, she was the featured artist of her print company, Qoro LLC, at the five-day International Art Expo at New York City's Javits Center. Her print, The Kalmar Nyckel now hangs permanently at the Children’s State Beach House in Lewes over the mantel. Anne was selected in 2004 to be in the WHOS, WHO OF AMERICAN WOMEN IN 2004-5. She received a Delaware State Arts Division Travel Grant and has been accepted in the National League of American Pen Women as a Painter/Member. She won the Adelia Chiswell Award for Best in Watercolor at the 66th Annual Members show at Rehoboth Art League, and exhibited two weekends at their outdoor show. |
